About this site

Welcome to The Narrative Designer, a publication about the arts and crafts of interactive storytelling. But before we start taking apart stories in video games to see what makes them tick, brief introductions are in order.

Who am I?

My name is Artur Ganszyniec, and I’m a narrative designer, video game writer, and educator—at least that is the part that is important for this endeavor. Over the last two decades, I’ve been working and consulting on all types of games, from big AAA titles to mobile F2P to medium-sized AAs to artistic indie darlings, and mentored over a hundred student projects.

I am fascinated with how games tell stories in a way that is specific to the medium, and quite different from books, movies, or ballet. I spend a lot of time analyzing stories in games, reading about crafting good stories for various media, talking to novelists, screenwriters, and narrative designers, and teaching game writing and interactive storytelling—and I really like talking and writing about this topic.

This publication is my outlet for sharing my special interest with the world. If you share that interest, it can also be your source of ideas, tips and tricks, case studies, and the newest developments in the field.
